SAN RAMON, Calif. — The Straw Hat Pizza Cooperative announced it will support the Muscular Dystrophy Association's 40th annual Labor Day Telethon, by feeding volunteers at its San Francisco Bay Area broadcast affiliate, KTVU, Fox Channel 2.
According to a news release, funds raised from the event, known best as the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon, help fund research to fight neuromuscular diseases.
Straw Hat will supply its California Crust Pizza to the expected 100 volunteers at the television studios during the Labor Day broadcast on Sept. 5.
"We're getting up early to make a lot of great pizza for those folks," said Randy Khangura, owner of the Castro Valley, Calif., Straw Hat unit. "We're excited to show our support by doing what we do best, and I know the volunteers will appreciate it very much."
Jennifer Harr, MDA Program Coordinator, said nearly a million volunteers across the nation will be involved in the telethon, which is expected to raise more than $60 million dollars. "They all deserve our thanks and support, and we're thrilled that Straw Hat Pizza so quickly stepped up to donate their terrific pizzas for our cause."
