WILLARD, Ohio -- You can't get peanut butter and jelly pizza just anywhere, and some may call that a good thing.

But for customers of East of Chicago Pizza, the sweet treat is an unusual offering that's built a following in five states. And to celebrate National Peanut Butter & Jelly Day on April 2, the 142-store chain will give away free slices of the sandwich-turned-pizza at its stores in Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Florida and Virginia.

"Goodyear has its tires, Anchor Hocking has its glass, Longaberger has its baskets ... and we have our Peanut Butter and Jelly Pizza," says East of Chicago CEO Scott Granneman, who helped pioneer the pizza.

To cook the pizza properly, the peanut butter has to be microwaved until pourable, and the jelly must be spread from edge to edge to keep the peanut butter from burning.

The Peanut Butter and Jelly pizza is one of two East of Chicago dessert pizzas. The Dutch Crunch, which uses apples and a streusel-type topping, is the second.
