Mod Pizza is debuting in Utah, then coming on strong with a total of five openings there by year's end, a news release said.
Location No. 1 in the state opens early this month on South Wildcat Way in Woods Cross. Two more open in August with a total of five locations in the Wasatch Front area around Salt Lake City by year's end. Aside from Woods Cross, Mod will open n Park City, Riverdale, Murray (Fashion Place) and Sugarhouse.
Next year, the chain's leadership said up to six stores will open in American Fork, Layton, Riverton and Saratoga Springs.
"Mod was founded on the idea that if we take care of our people and our communities, the business will largely take care of itself," Mod co-founder and CEO Scott Svenson, said in the release. "The foundation for our MOD culture is kindness, and our motivation to bring Mod to new communities is driven by our desire to make a positive social impact on as many lives as possible. This includes offering job and career growth opportunities to those who traditionally face barriers to employment, and building partnerships that are focused on supporting at-risk youth and families in each of our markets."
As an outward display of that approach, the Woods Cross location includes the chain's Wall of Fame photo collage that pays homage to the local community and people. The store is also giving all its pizza sale proceeds from its opening day to a local charity and as one of Fortune magazine's 20 Best Workplaces in Retail its positions pay above industry standard, while employees have access to health, dental and vision benefits, short-term disability, sick pay, flexible scheduling for work-life balance and opportunities for career growth.
