Pupatella, a Neapolitan pizza brand, aims to expand in the Washington, D.C. metro area and beyond with a $7.5 million investment from private investors.

The Virginia-based company, which began as an Arlington-based food truck in 2007, opened its first location in 2010 and now operates five restaurants: two in Arlington, one in Richmond, one in Reston and the first Washington, D.C. location in Dupont Circle. It plans to open 15 company-owned locations over the next few years, according to a press release.

This most recent capital raise doubles a $3.75 million raise completed in late 2018.

Future growth plans already under way include upcoming Virginia locations in West Springfield and Fairfax (Mosaic), and three additional sites in negotiation, including Pupatella's first in Maryland, according to the release.

"Our investors recognize a winning recipe when they see it, and they know Pupatella has that unbeatable combination of exceptional food and a skilled leadership team that makes consistent execution and strong performance possible," Adam Winder, Pupatella CFO, said in the release. "All of our restaurants continue to exceed expectations, and we are thrilled to keep growing and succeeding with a smart group of brand enthusiasts behind us."
