Pizza food truck looks to blanket Midwest

Streetza Pizza is perfecting a business model for a fleet of mobile kitchens.

February 25, 2010

Streetza Pizza, a year-old mobile food truck based in Milwaukee, is hatching plans for expansion from Cleveland to Milwaukee, according to business partner Marc Kenneth Krantz.

Krantz said Streetza is looking to deploy between 50 and 100 company-owned vehicles across the Midwest. Team members are currently examining market research to decide where the trucks will be deployed and their routes.

The business operation model will be based on a complex logistical framework that considers many factors to determine a truck's route: Two considerations might include the amount of foottraffic at a given location vs. gas and other overhead costs. The company also is considering cultivating symbiotic relationships with strip mall tenants; Streetza owner Scott Baitinger said many stores have already offered money for the food truck to park and drive traffic to their areas.

Baitinger estimates that 60 percent of Streetza's revenue has been directly tied to its social media activities such as Twittering the truck's location. Krantz said social media will continue to play an important role as the company expands.
