Several pizza chains hit 52-week highs


Average block cheese prices stayed even last week on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, coming in at an average of $2.13. The previous week's average was the same.

Cheese prices closed at $2.13 even from Monday through Thursday and $2.12 Friday.


Wheat prices are down nearly $2 from two weeks ago. Last week's average on the Minneapolis Grain Exchange was $8.35, down from the prior week's average of $8.66, and $9.37 from the previous week.

Wheat closed at $8.05 Monday, $8.39 Tuesday, $8.76 Wednesday, $8.23 Thursday and $8.31 Friday.

Gasoline and diesel fuel

Monday's nationwide average for regular unleaded gasoline was $3.56 for the second week in a row, an 8-cent drop from two weeks ago when it was $3.64, according to AAA and the Oil Price Information Service.

Prices are also down from $3.77 a month ago, but remain up from this time last year, when consumers were paying $2.72 at the pump.

Mid-range unleaded is $3.70, while today's premium unleaded price is $3.83. Both stayed the same as last week's prices.

The nationwide average for diesel fuel is $3.90, a decrease from $3.92 last week. Diesel prices are also down from $4 a month ago, and remain up from $2.97 a year ago.

Natural Gas

Nearly all pricing points were down slightly for the week on light weather load despite an end-week rally anticipating warmer weather for the approaching July 4th holiday weekend. The Henry Hub price decreased 2 cents per million Btu (MMBtu) over the week (0.5 percent) to close at $4.40 per MMBtu on June 29.

Pizza company stocks

Pizza Hut parent Yum! Brands Inc hit a new 52-week high when shares went to $56.72, up by more than $2 from last week's closing of $54.18. Yum! traded at a 52-week low of $38.53 in July 2010.

Domino's hit a 52-week high as it finished at $25.64, an increase from $25.07 last week, which was the previous high. Shares are also substantially higher over this time last year when the company traded as low as $10.99 in June 2010.

Papa John's dropped to $32.37 from last's week's $32.59. The company hit its 52-week high four weeks ago at $34.12. Papa John's traded at a 52-week low of $22.78 in July 2010.

Shares in CEC Entertainment Inc., parent company of Chuck E. Cheese restaurants, jumped up to $42.18, reaching a new 52-week high before closing at $41.41 Friday. Its previous high was $42.04. CEC traded as low as $30.44 in August 2010.

California Pizza Kitchen closed at $18.47 Friday, up a penny from $18.46 the previous week. CPKI traded as high as $20.79 in May 2010 and as low as $13.19 in July 2010.

Pizza Inn jumped to $3.08, hitting a new 52-week high for third week in a row. It finished at $2.82 last week and $2.50 the previous week. It traded as low as $1.77 in May 2010.
