Domino's delivers 11th year of 'spring forward' fire safety campaign

March 7, 2018

Domino's has partnered for the 11th year with the National Fire Protection Association to get people to check their smoke alarm batteries when they "spring forward" on Sunday, March 11 for the shift to daylight saving time, a news release said. The brand is now delivering flyers promoting this potentially life-saving action and other fire safety steps on the tops of customers' boxes through March.

"Domino's reaches thousands of people through carryout and delivery orders on a daily basis, and we want to use that opportunity to share fire safety tips with families across the country," Domino's spokesperson Jenny Fouracre said in the release. "Daylight saving time is a great opportunity to remember to change your smoke alarm batteries after you set your clocks ahead. This is a small act, but an easy one that can help save lives."

NFPA has found that three out of five deaths that occur during home fires happen in residences without working smoke alarms, and that having a device in working order cuts the risk of dying in a fire in half, the release said.

"We applaud Domino's for their efforts to remind the public about replacing the batteries in their smoke alarms and helping to ensure that they're adequately protected in the event of a home fire," NFPA Outreach and Advocacy Vice President Lorraine Carli said in the release.
