After Domino's said its "tracker" has monitored the progress of more than 100 million orders over the last eight years of its existence, it's finally getting its day in the sun as the star of the brand's new TV spots.
A news release said the ads are a rendition of the 1986 movie, Ferris Bueller's Day Off. In this rendition, Ferris (originally played by a young Matthew Broderick) is replaced by Stranger Thingsactor, Joe Keery, who instead of "racing home" as Broderick did in the original movie, is tracking his pizza on a smartwatch to meet the Domino's delivery driver.
The Tracker tool allows Domino's customers to watch as their orders go into the oven and then out for delivery to their doorsteps. As it turns out, the chain said tracker has been a bit of a draw in itself.
"We know that customers find the Domino's Tracker to be a fun part of ordering from Domino's, so we tried to capture their excitement in this new ad," Domino's Vice President of Advertising Karen Kaiser, said in a news release. "While we modernized the classic scene with Domino's Tracker technology and Domino's custom-built delivery car, the DXP, the scene otherwise stays true to the 1980s Paramount cult classic."
The commercial also features a face from the original movie. Alan Ruck, who played Bueller's best friend, Cameron Frye, drives a car in the ad.
