Domino's UK unveils 'futuristic' delivery drone
Domino's UK teased its Facebook fans over the weekend by asking, "If you could have your Domino's pizza delivered by ANY futuristic vehicle, what would it be?" We now know that answer.
The company unveiled its "DomiCopter" on Monday, complete with a video showing a pizza delivery via remote-controlled mini octa-copter. According to NBC News, the 4-mile debut flight took 10 minutes and occurred in the city of Guildford, outside of London. It carried two large pepperoni pizzas.
T + Biscuits, an English creative agency, was hired by Domino's to test these delivery prototypes. It hired custom drone makers and tested a few designs before choosing the right one.
"We're looking at making flying pizzas a possibility," Tom Hatton, founder of T + Biscuits, told NBC News. "We're serious about it."
Hatton adds that the test delivery was quicker than a standard delivery, as it avoided red lights and traffic.
