The Punxsutawney Spirit: PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. — They didn't break numbers from last year, but thanks to Fox's Pizza Den, the Punxsutawney Fire Department still has about $8,200 that it didn't have Friday.
Through the support of hungry customers on Oct. 2, Fox's Pizza Den's annual Pizza & Prevention drive raised $8,235.16 for the Punxsutawney Fire Department by selling $9.11 pizzas. That's down from $9,800 last year, but Matt Powell, who coordinated this year's effort, wasn't complaining.
"That's definitely no problem," he said. "One day of work to get all that is really great."
This year's effort was dedicated to the memory of Tony Gianvito, the long-time president of the Punxsutawney Fire Department who passed away in September.
