Home Slice Pizza No. 2 Austin location = Art, irreverance

May 23, 2018

Home Slice Pizza will open location No. 2 May 30 at East 53rd Street in north-central Austin, Texas, with a combination of full-service dine-in, patio and indoor and outdoor bar seating, as well as a dedicated take-out window and counter service.

The new space includes more than 4,000 square feet, inspired by everything from cozy little Italian spots to Long Island banquet halls. Much of it touched by the flavor of New York City's "infamous pre-Giuliani years" that spawned an influx of art, music, and street-cred culture, a news release said.

Exterior finishes include aged brick from the original building, retro awnings and even some neon-lighted sequined signage for a 70s/80s vibe. Roman columns, flocked red velvet wallpaper and the ubiquitous chandelier fashioned from grape swag light fixtures, greet guests in a "faux host" area.

Likewise, a painted, domed ceiling covered with artwork of NYC's red-bereted Guardian Angels, painted by Abraham Mong, watches over everyone. In fact, a lot of local artists had a hand in the new location's making, including Niz, Cody Waker, Gary Green, Tony Romano, Laurie Mann, and Daniel Burns and others.

The location expands its offerings to include a full bar with a cocktail program and curated spirit list to support drink creation classics from numerous eras. As examples, the release said the location will offer drinks like the "Soul Fashioned," "Negroni Danza," and "It's Aperol Good," rooted in old-school New York and Italy with a playful irreverence.

The expanded menu includes Buffalo wings and a specialty Sicilian square pie.
