Mom, baseball and ... pizza? Papa John's hopes so

June 21, 2016

It used to be mom and apple pie that got the tie-in to baseball in the U.S. But as of today, Papa John’s hopes a lot of people will start connecting the "boys of summer" with pizza. That's because the chain today announced it is now the "official pizza" of Major League Baseball. Papa John's also said in a news release today that for the second year, its Washington state-based franchisees are also sponsoring the Seattle Mariners.

The chain is promoting these facts by holding a contest in which, one lucky little gal or guy can win the right to throw the first pitch at the July 1 Seattle Mariners game.

To enter, a parent or guardian of a child simply submits a photo on Papa John's Puget Sound facebook page showing their 6- to 12-year-old youngster chowing down on his or her favorite slice of pizza in their youth sports uniform.

One winner will be chosen to throw the honored pitch at the July game against the Baltimore Orioles. The winner and his or her family will receive four game tickets and field-level passes to watch their little pitcher throw out the ball. The winner will be selected randomly on this Friday morning, June 24.

Louisville-based Papa John's is also the official pizza sponsor of the NFL and sponsored Super Bowl 50.
