New S.C. Mellow Mushroom boasts sci-fi theme

July 18, 2014

Mellow Mushroom will open its newest unit July 21 in Rock Hill, S.C., across from the Regal Manchester Cinema in Manchester Village. The new restaurant is owned by Chuck Watson, Brian Johnsey and Charles Ryan.

"Rock Hill has a great mixture of growth and well preserved history," Watson said in a news release. "Being along the I-77 corridor, we are excited to be a terrific option for commuters and travelers as well."

This Mellow Mushroom décor was inspired by classic sci-fi writers Jules Verne and H.G. Wells. It includes a large metallic octopus in the entry, a psychedelic wall sculpture made from reclaimed organ pipes and a bar reminiscent an engine room.

A large dirigible airship blows a jet stream of top hats back into a private dining room, which itself features robots. The veranda features oil panels featuring inventors and their inventions for time travel. A submarine booth offers guests another option in which to dine, surrounded by ocean creatures.

This Mellow also includes a full-service bar with 30 rotating draft beers, private seating for 18 and TVs.
