Papa John's new board members bring expertise in marketing, tech, women's advocacy

March 15, 2019

Days after Papa John's founder John Schnatter agreed to leave the brand's board earlier this month, the company's leadership has named media and marketing executive Michael Dubin, as well as tech and executive women's advocate Jocelyn Mangan, to its governing body, a news release said. The two appointments came after a search by the board and its corporate governance and nominating committee.

In the first week of March, Schnatter said he'd relinquish his board post if the company named an independent director in his place before Papa John's May stockholder meeting. Then Thursday, the company filed forms to indicate it was expanding its board by two positions and putting Dubin and Mangan in for a vote by stockholders in May.

Dubin is the CEO of Dollar Shave Club, and Managan is chief executive director for Him for Her, an organization that boosts female corporate board member representation.

"We are pleased to welcome Michael and Jocelyn to the Papa John's Board," Papa John's Board Chairman Jeff Smith, said in the release. "Michael has a strong record of building innovative consumer brands and deep marketing and business operations expertise. Through her executive roles at Snagajob and OpenTable, and as a member of the ChowNow board, Jocelyn has substantial technology and product strategy experience, including developing mobile apps and leading software products for consumer, restaurant and marketplace companies."

Dubin has been CEO of the discount razor company — acquired by Unilever nearly three years ago — since 2011. He formerly held marketing, advertising, media and digital commerce positions at NBC, MSNBC, Time Inc. and two advertising agencies.

"I am honored to join the Papa John's Board and look forward to working closely with my fellow directors and the Papa John's team to realize the full potential of the company's brand and differentiated market position," Dubin said in the release.

Mangan founded the social enterprise, Him For Her, but previously was COO and chief marketing and product officer at Snagajob, as well as senior vice president product at OpenTable. She also serves on the board of food ordering and marketing platform, ChowNow.

"Papa John's was the first company in its category to launch many technology initiatives, including online ordering across all of its restaurants nationwide," Mangan said in the release. "I am excited to contribute as a director to the ongoing strategy and product development that will enable Papa John's technology leadership well into the future."
