Papa Murphy's starts serving antibiotic-free chicken today

July 18, 2016

Papa Murphy's today became the first national chain pizza restaurant to commit to serving all antibiotic-free chicken for everything on its menu containing the poultry item.
In a news release Monday afternoon, the chain said all of its more than 1,500 stores nationwide have committed to the action, which they began today.

"Introducing chicken raised without antibiotics to our menu is a natural step for our brand and we are excited to offer customers delicious, vegetarian-fed chicken that they can feel good about serving their families,” said the brand's Chief Marketing Officer Brandon Solano in a news release.

In fact, the chain announced it would celebrate today's move by offering its chicken-bacon-artichoke gourmet delite pizza for $9 beginning now through Aug. 14.

"At Papa Murphy’s, food quality is an integral part of our heritage, concept and our overall culinary strategy that centers on exceptionally fresh ingredients, and sets us apart from other national pizza chains," said President and CEO Ken Calwell in the release. "In our 35-year history, we have always served only the highest quality ingredients including 100-percent whole-milk mozzarella grated in-store each day, butcher-quality meat with no added fillers and fresh, whole vegetables, hand-sliced in-store daily."

Technomic named Papa Murphy's best in food quality among quick-serve restaurants earlier this year. The chain announced that it's also committing to removing artificial flavors and colors from its food by 2017, and is currently working to eliminate palm oil and high-fructose corn syrup from menu items by this fall. Papa Murphy's already has cut the use of monosodium glutamate from its offerings.

It's the largest take-n-bake pizza brand in the U.S. and also offers grab-and-go items like salads, sides and desserts.
