Pizza Hut, Domino's top U.K. pizza award winners

LONDON — Seven Italian restaurants and three pizzerias across the United Kingdom have been given Gold Awards in recognition of their exceptional standards by the Chepstow, England-based Pizza, Pasta & Italian Food Association.
 
Domino's Pizza won the association's chain Pizza Delivery Operator of the Year award, while rival Pizza Hut received the overall Operator of the Year award.Pizza Hut also took the New Product or Ingredient of the Year award for its Cheesy Bites.
 
The Pizza, Pasta & Italian Food Association works to raise standards throughout the industry as well as improve the commercial environment for business operators.The results of the 2007 annual awards were announced at a Nov. 1 ceremony held at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, London.
 
Various supermarkets won awards for their pizza and pasta, with multiple wins going to Co-Op, Morrisons, Waitrose and Aldi. The Innovative Pizza Award went to WeightWatchers for its Hot & Spicy Chicken Oval Pizza.
