Pizza Hut offering 'Thoroughbread Sticks' for Kentucky Derby weekend

To celebrate the Kentucky Derby, this Saturday, Pizza Hut is temporarily changing the name of its breadsticks to "Thoroughbread Sticks." The Derby takes place in Pizza Hut parent company Yum! Brands' hometown of Louisville, Ky.

During this week, customers can get an order of Thoroughbread Sticks for $2, chosen to match the price of a minimum straight bet at the racetrack. The promotion is good for those who also order a large pizza online through May 3, using the promo code, "STICKS."

"For the millions of fans that can't make it to the race on Saturday, Pizza Hut is offering a great deal on our all-time favorite breadsticks, aptly renamed 'Thoroughbread Sticks,' this week," Director of PR Doug Terfehr said in a news release. "There are not many sure things when it comes to the first Saturday in May, but this offer is sure to be a crowd pleaser."

The Pizza Hut breadsticks are the company's highest-selling side item. The breadsticks are seasoned with garlic and parmesan and served with marinara dipping sauce.

Additionally, Pizza Hut has partnered with designer Angela Bacskocky to create custom hats in recognition of one of the Derby's signature traditions. The hats, made of Pizza Hut pizza and WingStreet wing boxes, as well as other materials found in Pizza Hut restaurants, will be displayed in Churchill Downs' infield on race day and given away through the company's social media channels leading up to the race.
