Pupatella Neapolitan pizzeria is expanding its Virginia presence, with Franchisee Zeeshan Kaba signing a lease for his second Pupatella location on West Broad Street in Glen Allen, a news release said. The location should open this fall.
"Pupatella has had a whirlwind first year of business in Richmond, and we are so grateful to our guests and fans who have shown their support," Kaba said in the news release.
The brand is Richmond, Virginia's, only restaurant certified by the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana in Naples, Italy. That means it's got the stamp of approval as authentic Neapolitan pizza as originally created nearly 150 years ago. It also means only wood-fired oven baking, as well as four-ingredient dough with sauce made of San Marzano tomatoes grown in Italy, fresh cherry tomatoes, fresh mozzarella made with buffalo milk, sea salt, fresh basil and olive oil.
The new Pupatella is 2,200-square-feet with seating for 105 including everything from counter service to full tableside dining. Aside from red and white pizza, the brand offers friggitoria (Italian fried food), small plates, salads, craft beers and wine by the glass or bottle.
The new store joins with two other Virginia locations in Arlington and Richmond's Fan District. Kaba is the Richmond metro area franchisee and has plans to develop a total of four Pupatella pizzerias.
