Sbarro introduced an enhanced pizza recipe this week, featuring 20-percent more cheese.
"We're going back to the basics," CEO David Karam said in a news release. "We have the best cheese in the business – 100-percent whole milk mozzarella that we shred fresh daily to assure the best taste. By adding 20-percent more cheese, we are bringing to light one of the best cheese and high-quality pizza product stories in the industry."
The upgraded recipe coincides with the brand's revitalization plan that also includes the incorporation of new flavors and the removal of some chicken and pasta dishes from the menu. The chain will continue to create its dough in-house.
Additional efforts include the unveiling of an updated logo and store remodeling projects that will continue into 2015.
To celebrate the changes, Sbarro is hosting a digital sweepstakes on its Facebook page that asks customers to "Say Cheese!" for a chance to win prizes including a $500 shopping spree and free pizza.
