Senator introduces Menu Labeling Bill

June 21, 2006

WASHINGTON — Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, and Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn., have introduced identical legislation in the Senate and House that would require chain restaurants and vending machines to display nutritional information on menus and on the outside of vending machines.

The bills, S. 3484 and H.R. 5563, would amend the Nutrition Labeling and Education Act of 1990, which requires "Nutritional Facts" information on store-bought foods but exempts restaurants. No hearings have been scheduled for either bill.
