Technomic: US Restaurant industry to see 'healthy growth' over next 5 years

A supplier-focused report released today by Technomic anticipated that the U.S. restaurant industry will grow over the next five years at a "healthy" rate, a news release said. The new data release, geared toward international food suppliers, reviewed the market landscape, manufacturer and operator environments, distribution network and non-restaurant categories in food service nationally. 

Some of the reports major insights over the next five years, included: 

• Total U.S. foodservice to account for 64 percent of projected industry growth.
• Individual operators employ 4.5 different distributors on average. 
• U.S. national restaurant landscape is 51 percent limited service, 49 percent full service.

The company said that nationally, customer order customization capability is the most important element for Americans when choosing a place to eat, though DMAs for Atlanta and Houston over-index for this attribute.
