Little Caesars tests meatless sausage topping in 3 states

May 22, 2019

Little Caesars said this week that it's testing a plant-based meatless sausage on its "Impossible Supreme Pizza" in three states where the chain is hoping to gauge reception to the product, made by Impossible Meats. According to CNN, the meatless sausage-topped pies are being piloted in Florida, New Mexico and Washington state.

Although Impossible Meats has already had widespread acceptance across the QSR and fast casual industry in burger form, the plant-based sausage is a first for the company. CNN said the product was designed to appeal to Little Caesars customers, who are so-called "flexitarians" who occasionally eat meatless dishes, but also eat those containing animal meat.

"These kind of flexitarians have been growing in nature," Little Caesars Chief Innovation Officer Ed Gleich told CNN. "They're not hard core" vegans or vegetarians, but "they're more adventurous" in their choices. The Impossible Supreme pizza is designed to appeal to meat eaters, and isn't vegan (it's topped with cheese, along with the sausage substitute and other items).

Little Caesars expects to pilot the product four weeks before rolling out to a wider audience if successful. Little Caesars did not respond to repeated requests for information from this website.
