Mellow Mushroom steps up customer experience with surprise wedding appearance

Nov. 6, 2013

Mellow Mushroom sent its Bake Bus to Stephen and Heidi Smith's wedding in Charlotte, N.C., where it served guests pizza and recreated the ambiance of the Mellow where the couple shared their first date, in Savannah, Ga. Heidi submitted her and her husband's first date story to the Mellow website, which prompted the Bake Bus' surprise appearance at the wedding.

After the couple's first date at the Savannah Mellow, they returned often, making it their usual Friday date night spot and routinely ordering the Magical Mystery Tour with pineapple. Stephen and Heidi eventually moved to North Carolina, but there was not a Mellow close to their new home. When Heidi read about the Bake Bus, the brand's mobile pizza kitchen, she reached out to HQ to see if Mellow would be able to serve the guests at their wedding.

Mellow Mushroom HQ and the Mellow Mushroom in Charlotte, N.C., collaborated on a surprise visit to enhance the couple's wedding. On their wedding night, the Bake Bus showed up with a surprise pop-up dinner and recreated the ambiance of the Savannah location.

"Here at Mellow, we are suckers for a great love story," said Annica Kreider, VP of Brand Development. "We knew we needed to seize this opportunity and provide the ultimate surprise of their lifetime, so we did."
