Pieology pies 'veg out'

California-based, Pieology,  said it has become the first fast-casual pizza brand to offer customers three meatless toppings, including Spicy Italian Sausage Rounds, Beef Meatball and Diced Chicken toppings, all of which — despite their names — are actually all vegan, non-GMO and contain no soluble fats, but plenty of protein, said a news release that added that the toppings are priced at an additional dollar per ounce.

"Although vegans, vegetarians and flexitarians will love the new pizza options, the premium toppings are a healthy choice for anyone who wants to enjoy a new style of protein," Pieology Vice President of Marketing Chad Bailey said in the release.

The company already offers the new toppings at 24 California and Nevada locations, but will add them to its continental locations and those in Guam on Feb. 12.
