Pizza Hut said it's spent three years working on ways to improve the brand's version of its nearly 40-year-old Original Pan Pizza, which it is relaunching for the first time since it debuted back in the days of when Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan ran for president and women everywhere ran around with big hair — 1980.
A news release said the brand's "renovated" Original Pan Pizza has a crispier crust, with a "more flavorful" blend of cheese and sauce, all baked in a newly engineered pan designed to enhance the crust and protect the pie's "chewy center."
"Pizza Hut has a rich history of things we're known for, and creator of the Original Pan Pizza is certainly at the top of the list," Pizza Hut Chief Brand Officer Marianne Radley, said in the release. "Re-inventing our most iconic Pizza Hut menu item is just another way we're showing our customers that as a company we're about the pizza first and will never become complacent when it comes to taste."
The nationwide roll-out of the dish also adds it to the brand's Everyday Low-Price Deal for a limited time. Under that deal, diners who order a large two-topping Original Pan Pizza online will get the pie for $7.99.
