Pizza Hut is celebrating National Book Month and National Pizza Month by turning one of its most recognizable brand symbols into neighborhood book exchanges. The pizza chain has partnered with nonprofit Little Free Library to launch "Little Hut Libraries," miniature libraries designed to resemble Pizza Hut's iconic red-roof restaurants, the company announced in a news release.
Available beginning this fall, each Little Hut Library will be stocked with books as well as a limited number of Personal Pan Pizza gift cards. Consumers can apply to receive a free "Little Hut Library" and bring the book exchange to their own neighborhood.
"Pizza Hut has always been about more than pizza; it's about the memories and moments that happen around it," Melissa Friebe, chief marketing officer at Pizza Hut U.S., said in the press release. "Our red roofs and BOOK IT! are two iconic pieces of Pizza Hut history."
Friebe said the collaboration with Little Free Library gives the company a new way to support reading while tapping into nostalgia surrounding the Pizza Hut brand. The initiative brings together Pizza Hut's red-roof heritage and its more than 40-year commitment to encouraging reading through BOOK IT!, the literacy program launched in 1984 that rewards reading achievements with Personal Pan Pizzas.
