Walmart, Papa Johns partner on delivery

Walmart is expanding its restaurant delivery business through a partnership with Papa Johns, allowing customers to order pizza and other menu items alongside groceries and household essentials through Walmart Express Delivery.

Papa Johns is the first national restaurant brand available through Walmart Express Delivery with orders fulfilled entirely from restaurant locations outside Walmart stores. Eligible customers can order pizzas, wings, sandwiches, sides and desserts through the Restaurants section of the Walmart app, either on their own or bundled with other Walmart purchases.

"Adding Papa Johns brings even more variety and convenience to that experience, giving customers the option to order a favorite like pizza alongside the everyday items they already count on Walmart for," Greg Cathey, senior vice president of eCommerce Fulfillment Innovation at Walmart, said in a company announcement.

The Papa Johns deal comes just a week after Walmart announced an expansion of its restaurant delivery business with Dunkin'. That rollout begins with 150 Dunkin' locations inside Walmart stores and is expected to expand to the majority of roughly 10,000 Dunkin' restaurants outside Walmart stores nationwide. Walmart entered restaurant delivery earlier this summer with Subway.

The moves signal Walmart's broader effort to become a bigger player in restaurant delivery by leveraging its existing e-commerce and last-mile delivery infrastructure. Walmart said approximately 90% of the U.S. population lives within 10 miles of one of its stores.

For Papa Johns, the partnership creates another avenue to reach consumers and generate additional dining occasions.

"By bringing our focus on quality to Walmart Express Delivery, we're giving customers an opportunity to try Papa Johns in new occasions as they shop, while also introducing the brand to new people," Chris Lyn-Sue, global chief marketing officer at Papa Johns, said in the announcement.
