Your Pie crowns winner of crowdsourced pizza

After a two-week voting period in which over 2,170 votes were cast, Your Pie has announced that Fleming Island, Fla., resident Cheri Walker and her creation, Mama Walker's Mediterranean Madness, is the winner of the brand's "Pie of the Year" contest. As the winner, Walker will receive the grand prize of a trip to the Island of Ischia in Italy, where Drew French, founder of Your Pie, first conceived the concept.

According to a news release Walker is a mother and former Fleming Island High School drama teacher.

Your Pie launched the "Pie of the Year" contest on Facebook to determine the best original fan creation of 2013. Mama Walker's Mediterranean Madness won with 1,038 votes. Walker concocted the winning pie at the Fleming Island Your Pie location owned by Mike Sims.

The toppings on a Mama Walker's Mediterranean Madness include: basil pesto sauce, gorgonzola, low fat mozzarella, baby bella mushrooms, black olives, red onions, roasted garlic, spinach, artichoke hearts, chicken, roasted red peppers, and sundried tomatoes.

Each month in 2013, Your Pie invited fans of the brand to submit their Your Pie customized pizza recipes on Facebook. A winner was selected each month based on fan voting and received free Your Pie for a month. All 12 winners competed in the "Pie of the Year" contest.

"Cheri and her unique pie really capture Your Pie's spirit of creativity and expression," French said. "The fans have spoken, and we're thrilled to give 'Mama Walker' the chance to visit Italy and experience the incredible culinary culture that inspired me to create Your Pie."

Walker's grand-prize package includes a flight to Italy with four nights lodging, transportation to Ischia from Rome and a $700 spending card.
