Domino's Inc. has reported a Q2 global sales increase of 3%, according to a company press release. U.S. same-store sales increased 0.1% while international same-store sales dropped slightly, 0.1% for the quarter.

The company added 209 net new stores globally, including 26 in the U.S. and 183 internationally, bringing its worldwide footprint to 22,531 locations.

Meanwhile, revenue rose 4.3% to $1.19 billion, driven by higher supply chain sales, franchise royalties and advertising revenue.

Additional highlights include:

  • Operating income increased 3.1%
  • Net income grew 3.6% to $135.8 million, while diluted earnings per share climbed 6.8% to $4.07.

Domino's CEO Russell Weiner attributed the chain's modest, although resilient growth, to order count increases specifically across the company's delivery and carryout businesses.

"The QSR industry in the U.S. has been struggling with order counts during a difficult period of macroeconomic uncertainty. We believe this continued in Q2, where QSR order counts were flat. And despite this backdrop, demand for Domino's remained incredibly strong," Weiner said during the company's Q2 earnings webcast July 20. "While we have not shared specific order count numbers in the past, and I won't start sharing them now on my last call, what I will tell you, is that our order counts were up meaningfully in total and individually in our delivery and carryout businesses. This means that while other restaurants were fighting for orders, millions of new customers came to Domino's."

Joining the earnings call was incoming Domino's CEO Joseph Jordan, who will take the helm in October. Joseph is currently serving as the company's chief operating officer and president, U.S., a position he's held for approximately 16 months. He joined the Domino's team in 2011 and has held multiple positions within the company since.

"Having spent the last several years as COO, I've had the opportunity to work closely with our franchisees and our teams across the globe. That experience has only strengthened my belief in what makes Domino's unique. We have an exceptional global franchise system, talented people, a culture of innovation and operational excellence, and a brand that continues to earn the trust of customers every day," he said during the Q2 webcast. "Those strengths give me tremendous confidence in our future. Our priorities remain clear: serving customers with delicious food, outstanding value, and a great experience, supporting our franchisees and executing with discipline to drive long-term growth."
