Domino's is piloting a kitchen-based AI tool that checks whether finished pizzas are up to snuff with the brand's independent master franchisee in Australia and New Zealand. Jennifer Fouracre-Petko, Domino's public relations director, told Pizza Marketplace that "the technology is still in the early stages of rolling out there and we look forward to learning more about how this technology works for their customers and store operations."
The Domino's locations are now using the DOM Pizza Checker to evaluate every pizza made in Australian and New Zealand stores over the area where the finished pies are cut into slices. The checker scans every pie and uses artificial intelligence to ensure accuracy before delivering it to customers.
An article in the Australia-based Weekly Times Now said the tool has already scanned more than 1 million pizzas following its two-year development process under the Israeli-based, Dragontail Systems.
If the pizza isn't up to standards, the tool triggers a message to waiting diners that their pie is being remade. More features are anticipated later this year with the tool in those Asia-Pacific countries, according to the article.
