Pizza Hut scores big with Ultimate Hershey's cookie ad

Ace Metrix announced the top scoring ads of Q3, based on its Ace Score in a variety of categories. In the QSR category, Pizza Hut earned the highest score for its Ultimate Hershey's Chocolate Chip Cookie ad.

In reference to Pizza Hut's ad, Ace Metrix wrote:"Pizza Hut is famous for its stuffed crust pizza, but its ad that wins the title of Ad of the Quarter is for a different kind of food – a giant cookie … The ad broke barriers, scoring above 700 on five of the six components – Likeability, Information, Attention, Change and Desire. Even Relevance scored extremely well (690), 15 percent above the 90-day QSR norm ...

"A majority of consumers agreed that the best thing about the ad is Hershey's cookie. Pizza Hut was able to make the cookie look so good that 9 percent of consumers who left feedback mentioned the word ‘yummy.' Another 10 percent used the word ‘love,' while 5 percent mentioned the cookie looked ‘delicious' or made them ‘hungry.'"

In total, 30 ads were awarded the title of Ad of the Quarter, each one having earned the highest Ace Score within their respective category. According to a news release, of the winners, five ads outperformed their competitive set by 23 percent or more.

  • Google made the top of the list for its ad featuring its search application (Ace Score 641, 30.1 percent above the Software & Websites norm).
  • PayPal debuted an ad 29.2 percent above the Financial Services category average and achieved the second highest Emotional Sentiment Index (71 out of 100) of all top Ads of the Quarter.
  • Ads from Band-Aid and Target used philanthropy, earning Ace Scores 23.9 and 23 percent above category norms, respectively.
  • "Endless Apps," the winning ad for the TGI Fridays promotion, received the only Ace Score above 700 this quarter at 704.
