Dubai pizzeria pushes UAE into the Bitcoin space

Feb. 17, 2014

A pizza concept in Dubai claims to be the first restaurant in the United Arab Emirates to accept bitcoins as a payment option. According to The National, The Pizza Guys started accepting the virtual currency earlier this month.

Owners Rami Badawi and Amber Haque said the payment offers another way for customers to pay, and also carries a lower transaction cost than credit cards. According to the story, bitcoins are converted via a wallet app on a smartphone, which then produces a QR code. The QR code is then scanned by the customer's smartphone to complete the transaction.
