Last week, menu analyst Nancy Kruse said one of the hottest marketing buzzwords in the restaurant industry is "skinny." Brands such as Sbarro and Cheesecake Factory have leveraged this trend with their respective Skinny Slice and Skinnylicious offerings.
Now it seems as though Pizza Hut wants a slice as well. According to the Associated Press, the country’s largest pizza chain is testing "Skinny Slice" pizzas in two markets – Toledo, Ohio, and West Palm Beach, Florida.
The lighter pizzas use less dough and are toppings.
In the Toledo test, customers can make their own slices with up to five toppings, the story said. Each slice contains fewer than 300 calories. In the Florida test, there are six pizzas to choose from, and each slice is less than 250 calories.
