Pizza Inn opens quick-service concept

June 1, 2011

Pizza Inn, based in The Colony, Texas, has opened a new concept in Fort Worth that offers smaller, cheaper and faster pizzas.

Pie five pizza co. features 9-inch pizzas prepared in less than 5 minutes via the High h Conveyor 2020 oven, manufactured by Turbo Chef Technologies, another Texas-based company.

According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, pie five includes an ordering setup similar to Chipotle, where customers walk through a line picking out toppings for their personal pizza, which is then quickly baked by the time they reach the POS.

The concept is smaller than the Pizza Inn buffet restaurants – about 1,250 square feet compared to 4,000 square feet – and offers both sit-down and carry-out options.

Pie five's dough is made in-house, similarly to Pizza Inn, and its menu includes beer and wine.

CEO Charlie Morrison told the Star-Telegram that the concept is expected to be franchised soon and that he believes it can grow by 100 units a year.
